{"id":1824,"date":"2021-04-21T11:44:46","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T11:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.jobs.lu\/recruiters\/?p=1824"},"modified":"2021-04-23T14:06:38","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T14:06:38","slug":"international-mobility-and-work-preferences-discover-the-latest-trends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.jobs.lu\/recruiters\/international-mobility-and-work-preferences-discover-the-latest-trends\/","title":{"rendered":"International mobility and work preferences: discover the latest trends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0pandemic\u00a0has\u00a0significantly changed how people think about their mobility preferences\u00a0and what matters to them at work.\u00a0\u00a0The Decoding Global Talent 2021 survey\u00a0allows us to\u00a0investigate\u00a0these changes from various angles.\u00a0The results are\u00a0based on 208,000 respondents&#8217; opinions around the world,\u00a0including in Luxembourg, from\u00a0a collaboration of BCG and The Network.<\/span><\/i><\/span><span class=\"eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAlthough interest in working abroad has waned, it remains stable in Luxembourg<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Globally and for the past four years,\u00a0the\u00a0desire\u00a0to move abroad for work has\u00a0become less attractive\u00a0for people.\u00a0This\u00a0decline\u00a0can be explained\u00a0by multiple factors: restrictions and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 crisis and travelling being perceived as no longer safe,\u00a0the emergence of nationalistic policies and tighter immigration regulations across key economies (like\u00a0Brexit\u00a0and\u00a0US\u00a0policies, for example)\u00a0and\u00a0the expansion of virtual offices making moving abroad to find work no longer necessary.\u00a0In this case, Luxembourg stands out: the proportion has even increased since 2014, with <strong>81% of 2,020 respondents saying they are still inclined to look for work beyond the country&#8217;s borders<\/strong>. As a\u00a0well-known\u00a0international hub, workers\u00a0of the\u00a0Grand Duchy are pursuing their\u00a0career\u00a0ambitions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nA new kind of work mobility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the emergence of remote working, people now have new alternatives.\u00a0There is a\u00a0shift,\u00a0and it appears that working remotely for a foreign employer could be a valid alternative: 57%\u00a0of\u00a0global\u00a0respondents are open to the idea of working remotely for a foreign employer, which is higher than the 50% who are interested in physical mobility.\u00a0Luxembourgish people are an exception here, since\u00a0their choice is\u00a0the exact\u00a0opposite:\u00a0<strong>53%\u00a0of them would\u00a0prefer\u00a0to work for a remote employer<\/strong>,\u00a0which is still inferior to the desire\u00a0for\u00a0physical mobility.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0closer look at the remote work trend shows that even within similar job\u00a0categories, there are major differences by country of residence:\u00a0it\u00a0has most firmly taken root in Western Europe, especially in countries hit hard by COVID-19. The Netherlands and the UK lead the field among all of these countries in the percentage of people who work remotely, with Luxembourg and France ranking high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\"><strong><br \/>\nPeople have higher expectations towards the ideal\u00a0workplace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Overall, remote work awareness has created an expectation that will outlive the crisis.\u00a0Even if\u00a0the upside of remote work\u00a0has been highlighted, fully remote work\u00a0\u2014in which employees never set foot in an office\u2014\u00a0isn\u2019t a model that people are\u00a0going\u00a0for as they look toward the end of the pandemic.\u00a0For instance, residents of\u00a0Luxembourg\u00a0are among the least likely to say they would be okay with never going to the office again.\u00a0If given a choice,\u00a0<strong>85% of\u00a0people working in Luxembourg\u00a0would like to have some flexibility in where work gets done, but only\u00a016% would go fully remote<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0desire\u00a0to work remotely\u00a0is not that different across job roles, and even people in social and physical jobs would like to have at least some work-from-home days. For example,\u00a0<strong>80% of people working in the health &amp; medical industries express their will to work remotely four days a week<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>people working in the field of law at least one day a week<\/strong> after the pandemic ends.\u00a0However, in\u00a0many of these seemingly\u00a0less\u00a0flexible industries, there is a big gap between the desire for remote work and the incidence thereof: this\u00a0may be\u00a0an indication\u00a0of work model changes destined to transform even more industries.<\/p>\n<p>Flexibility has always been desired\u00a0in terms of\u00a0location, while today 76% of respondents\u00a0from Luxembourg\u00a0are seeking some or full flexibility in determining their working hours.\u00a0Regarding <strong>the marketing\u00a0and communication field,\u00a0more than 60% of\u00a0people would prefer\u00a0a\u00a0flexible\u00a0agenda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nPeople are questioning the impact of work on their lives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The way people collaborate, the tools they use, the effectiveness of their work, and their well-being have also been affected.\u00a0For the biggest part,\u00a0<strong>people\u00a0have experienced a positive impact on their use of digital tools<\/strong>, especially those in knowledge-based jobs.
